When we look for “natural” or “organic” or  “pure” or “non-toxic” beauty products, we’re essentially seeking out products that will not be harmful to our health.

This is a difficult task, because the US doesn’t require by law that beauty brands be completely transparent about their formulations. And the FDA does not even have full authority to regulate cosmetics. The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics has been a watchdog and advocate for safer products for years,  as consumers have started to pay more attention to the links between toxic exposure and diseases.

EWG’s Skin Deep is a great resource to research products you use.  EWG rates the toxicity of ingredients. On a scale of 0-10, 0-2 gets you a green light, in the least toxic range. In fact, if a brand has products where every single ingredient in every single formulation is all in the 0-2 range, the brand received a “Champion” status.

Not many brands have achieved this Champion status. In Korea, the only brand to have received this award is aromatica.
