Simple, beautiful fall makeup: Jung Saem Mool style

Simple, beautiful fall makeup: Jung Saem Mool style

Getting my “face on” used to be something I actually said. Can you believe it? My go-to routine (done before school or a night out) would usually involve applying multiple layers of foundation, concealer, setting powder, bronzer, blush and shimmer (yes, this was a thing), and that’s just the face products. Let’s just say I wasn’t doing myself any favors by also overplucking my brows (this was also a thing) and lining my lips with a very unnatural mud-like shade (hey, it beats the raisin-hued everything I rocked in the 90s), then filling them in with a glittery, radiantly-reflective nude gloss.

The horror of my college-age makeup routine aside, let’s be real. Gone are the days when we could sit for extended periods of time and dedicate ourselves to an elaborate makeup routine. I personally do my makeup on the subway while commuting and I see many other ladies following suit. Today’s woman is looking for a makeup routine that is simple, yes, but also makes us look the best we possibly can, in the most minimal steps possible and with products that won’t give us any negative backlash after we wear them.

Because it’s now (without a doubt) becoming fall, we wanted to nail down an autumnal beauty look that would tick all those boxes, and highlight those products that would help us achieve a perfectly radiant, and most important, perfectly natural face. We looked to the incomparable beauty production team at Jung Saem Mool, Korea’s celebrated celebrity makeup artistry brand, to get tips and tricks for getting the basics done right.

To begin, it’s important to start with skin that is clean and well hydrated. We recommend first washing with JSM’s Essential Cleansing Gel Starter, which uses micellar technology to remove any residual makeup, dead skin cells and impurities from the pores. Then apply the Essential Mool Essence, which sinks right into skin delivering fermented hydrolyzed pearl extract and hyaluronic acid to create a dewy, luminous canvas for your makeup application. And don’t forget the sunblock! (Alicia recommends at least 35) to face the day.

When it comes to your first makeup step, the JSM team starts things off with the JSM Skin Setting Glowing Base to create a “delicate glow.” The liquid illuminator, which is infused with micronized pearl particles, should be applied in a downward motion, beginning in the T-zone area, then moving to the outer perimeters of the face and around the lip area. Now, your skin has a subtle sheen to it, making for a radiant base for the rest of your routine.

Next, reach for your Essential Star-Cealer Foundation which is a creamy full coverage concealer that will help disguise dark circles and any imperfections. Apply the foundation starting from the V-zone (the area right under your neck), by lightly tapping with an applicator, or with your fingers, around the eyes, on the forehead, around the nose, around the mouth and on the outer perimeter of the face. Also, take note that this product is a 2-in-1, and the other side contains a lightweight liquid foundation, which provides medium-coverage, and is deliciously buildable.

Now it’s time for eyes. For this quick and easy tutorial we will be using JSM’s Artist Eyeshadow Palette in Neutral and Tender, a covetable assortment of must-have ,fall-perfect nude shades. If you are on-the-go, simply swipe on one of the lighter shades right across the eyelid and literally go! It’s the perfect amount of finish with minimal effort.

If you have a few minutes, you can add a bit more depth to the look by using any of the darker shades with a point brush, sweeping the powder inwards from the eye’s outer corner. Add darker, deeper hues, again concentrating on the corners, for a more dramatic effect. If you’re looking for even more of an impact, mimic the sweeping motion of your medium-hued shadow under the waterline for a diffused effect. Next comes apply mascara. The JSM Refining Lash Fit Mascara in Jet Black will help your eyes pop, and really set off your autumnal makeup look. We love that this innovative formula actually mimics Mool’s proprietary layering technique, which lifts each lash up with a specially designed brush. Your first coat will give you full definition and curl, and the second adds lushness and a dose of drama.

Let’s dig into brows. For this part we will use the JSM Refining Color-bony Brow Pencil and the JSM Refining Color-bony Brow Mascara. Using your 3-in-1 brow pencil, fill in the empty areas with powder (found on the spongy side of your pencil) and “sculpt natural looking brows” with the pointed side. Follow along the natural arch of your brow, making sure not to add pigment anywhere too far from what looks natural. If you’re worried about how this will look, be assured that the pencil’s slanted tip will help you create, and also define, hairs. Now you will use the brow mascara to coat a thin layer over your brows, helping to set them in place. The spooly round brush will help separate and define your brows, while also helping the shape to stay in place throughout the day. Again, work your way from the inner eye corner outwards.

When it comes to lips, we are loving the JSM High Tinted Lip Lacquer in Nude Apricot, as it is the perfect fleshy peach color that will keep you looking fresh, but finished. The JSM team advises that you apply the lacquer on the middle of your lips, moving outwards in a light circular motion.

Voila, perfected, but glowy skin, defined, but natural eyes, and a soft sensual pout. Ready to take on the world!
